Delhi Dynamos put an end to their goal scoring troubles in the second season of the Hero Indian Super League, as they hammered three goals past FC Pune City in Delhi on Thursday.
Delhi Dynamos, on a four match unbeaten run, finally seems to have found a way to score the goals as they stunned FC Pune City with their excellent usage of set pieces. The win over FC Pune City saw Delhi Dynamo move upto the second spot behind FC Goa only on goal difference.
Delhi Dynamos started in a 4-4-2 formation that saw Adil Nabi and Robin Singh start together and Vinicius from the right but it was shocking to see Hans Mulder being rested in the cruicial tie.
FC Pune City poor away record saw no improvement against Delhi Dynamos despite David Platt introducing Gouramangi Singh, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Wesley Verhoek and Kalu Uche in the starting lineup.
The Stallions started the match in search of a quick goal but Toni Doblas had came to the rescue for Delhi Dynamos defenders as early as the first minute. The attacked finally seems to have woken up the Lions as they made their attack on the 13th minute with Adinga shooting wide.
Both teams had their chances but it was the West Brom loanee Adil Nabi who gave Delhi Dynamos the lead, as he convert Florent Maloudaa s corner from just two yards out. Four minutes later, Dynamos defender Anas converts another of Malouda corner.
Pune City had a glorious opportunity to score on the 43rd minute after Kalu Uche latched on to the ball, but Doblas was quick off his line and punched it clear but only as far as Wesley who cana t find the open goal from outside the box and slices it over. A minute Doblas made amends as he saved Uchea s header from a Nicky Shorey cross.
The halftime score remained 2-0 but that didna t stop the Dynamos to come out roaring in the second half, as they looked to adjust their goal difference. Len had a great opportunity but his shot rebounded off the post.
Malouda the provider then made a glaring tackle on Sushant Matthews and could well have been sent off for going in studs first into the shin, but referee only produced a yellow card.
The Stallions found it even more hard to break down the sturdy Delhi defence and a late penalty scored by John Arne Riise in the 85th minute only sheen to the score. Govin Singh was given his marching order for a second bookable offence after he brought down Adinga inside the box.
The Stallion, though, did manage to score a consolation goal through Adrian Mutu in the fifth minute of added time but it was too little too late.
