Putting an end to the transfer saga that threatened to derail his career ahead of Euro 2016, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has signed a new four year deal at the club.
David De Gea’s proposed move to Real Madrid collapsed on transfer deadline day with a clerical error delaying the registration of the player in the FIFA TMS transfer system.
The saga threatened to derail his career, with Louis van Gaal choosing to not play him in his Manchester United starting line-up following doubts over his mental state.
Putting an end to any doubts that might result in van Gaal not selecting him, de Gea has signed a new deal at Manchester United.
De Gea, who signed a new four-year contract that also includes an option for a fifth year, told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career. I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans.”

“Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career. I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my teammates to be successful.”
United boss Louis van Gaal said: “I am absolutely delighted David has signed a new contract. He is one of the best goalkeepers in world football. I am very pleased that he will be part of the team for many years to come.
“David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club’s Player of the Year for the last two seasons. He is a popular player who is keen to learn and enhance his game. At such a young age for a goalkeeper, he has many years ahead of him.”
Manchester United fans were also delighted on hearing the news of their goalkeeper signing a new deal and erased any doubts that their double player of the year will not have a good reception when he wears the United jersey as evident from the tweets below:

Don’t think many saw this one coming even after deadline day – but great news for Man Utd as David de Gea signs a new four-year contract.

Honestly believe it’s just a strategic move from United in order to get more money for De Gea next summer. But it’s a great move.
