Christian Benteke Is Liverpool’s Main Transfer Target- Reports

Liverpool‘s main target for the summer is Christian Benteke as the club wants the Belgian to solve their goalscoring problems, reports suggest.

Christian Benteke is seemingly on top of the list for the Reds who would want to get back to Champions League and compete in all other competitions after an extremely disappointing season. Journalist Paul Joyce of the Daily Express confirmed that the Reds looked at Christian Benteke last summer, but were unsure after concerns over his injuries

The Belgian has been in great form under Tim Sherwood and has scored nine goals in his last eight matches.

Liverpool will have to pay a hefty sum for the player as Aston Villa are likely to demand a fee in the region A?30 million. His wages could be as high as up to A?100,000 per week. But with a chunk of players leaving the Reds this season (in a big potential clear-out), the Reds might have the resources to get their man.

According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood could target a reunion with Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor if Christian Benteke leaves Villa.

Liverpool are likely to face competition for Benteke as recent reports suggest Chelsea are looking to hijack the Merseysiders’ bid for the Belgian.

The Reds have also lined up Atletico Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic as a potential addition in the summer.

Liverpool are going to need another striker with two, if not all three of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to be sold. Brendan Rodgers has said more than once in recent times that the team has lacked goals this season and that has been one of the main reasons of worry so it is understood that that will be the first department Liverpool will look to remedy in the summer.
