The 2015 Indian Super League (ISL) final ended in an unsavoury manner after Chennaiyin FC marquee player Elano Blumer was arrested on Sunday night for assaulting FC Goa co-owner Duttaraj Salgaonkar.
Elano has been charged under Section 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), for wrongful restraint, according to Indian newspaper The Times of India.
It was a rather sad ending to a good match that ended with three goals in the dying minutes, as Chennaiyin FC took home the trophy with a 3-2 victory at the Fatorda Stadium, in Goa.
According to reports, the duo had a heated exchange in the tunnel after the match, which was followed by the Brazilian playmaker allegedly assaulting the Goan industrialist.
This was followed by the entire Goan contingent boycotting the awards ceremony, refusing to pick up both their team and their individual awards.
Neither Joffre nor Romeo Fernandes, who won the Hero of the Match and the Emerging Player of the match awards, were there at the presentation ceremony to pick up their respective prizes. The entire FC Goa side also went on to boycott the presentation ceremony, where they were supposed to receive their runners up medals.
Goa’ s Laxmikant Parsekar, who was supposed to hand out the prizes at the post match presentation also left the scene early on, as he was reportedly not happy with some of the refereeing decisions in the match.
Chennaiyin FC were awarded two penalties, both of which were saved by FC Goa custodian Laxmikant Kattimani. However, in the first penalty, Kattimai could not keep the ball out of the goal eventually, as Bruno Pelisari made amends for his penalty miss by scoring from the rebound.
