Champions League Draw: Real Madrid To Face Atletico In Quarter-Final In Repeat Of Last Year’s Final

Tensions ran high at Vicente Calderon

The draw for the quarter-final of the Champions League was held today.

In a rematch of last year’s final, Atletico Madrid and holders Real Madrid will contest the Madrid derby in the Champions League quarter-finals. Real triumphed 4-1 in extra time last season, but the scoreline didn’t truly reflect the tight match that it was. Real needed an injury time equaliser from Sergio Ramos before goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo in the extra time got them their La D cima a their much talked about 10th title. They will go head-to-head for the seventh and eighth times this season when they meet in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Paris St-Germain, who successfully defeated Chelsea in the last-16, will face La Liga leaders Barcelona. The Parisian side will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the first leg as he was shown a controversial straight red card in the second leg of the last-16 game. Ibrahimovic will face his former side in the second leg and hope he can be the difference for his side and reach a step closer to his very first Champions League title.

Monaco’s reward for beating Arsenal is a tie with Serie A champions Juventus. Juventus brushed past Borussia Dortmund to reach the quarter-final stage of the tournament.

Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich will face an in-form Porto in the tie in a repeat of the 1987 European Cup final, which was won by the Portuguese club.

The first legs will be held on 14-15 April, and the return legs will follow a week after, on 21-22 April. This yeara s final will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on 6 June.
