Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that Liverpool FC had approached former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti for the vacant managerial role before appointing Jurgen Klopp as the new manager.
Liverpool FC sacked manager Brendan Rodgers before the international break had begun, after the side recorded just three wins in eleven ties across all competitions.
The Merseyside outfit then appointed German Jurgen Klopp as the new manager, despite news also emerging that Carlo Ancelotti was in fray for the job, a report denied by the Merseyside outfit.

Redknapp claims Reds approached Ancelotti
Redknapp claimed, contrary to what the club was saying, that Liverpool FC had approached the former Real Madrid and Chelsea FC boss for the managerial role.
“I have heard from good sources that he [Ancelotti] was offered the Liverpool job,” Redknapp said, according to TalkSport.
“I don’t think [he wanted it]. They spoke to him at some stage.”
Redknapp backs Klopp appointment
The experienced manager, now retired, backed Liverpool FC’s appointment of the German manager Jurgen Klopp, stating that he is looking forward to seeing the Reds play under the former Dortmund manager
“I do like the look of Klopp, he’s a good appointment,” he said. “He’s looks bright, with great enthusiasm and he looks like he could be a really good addition to the Premier League. I’m looking forward to watching Liverpool play over the next few years.”
Redknapp’s claims that Liverpool did approach Ancelotti do not come as a surprise. The Reds were looking to replace the Northern Ireland man Brendan Rodgers with someone with pedigree and a proven track-record.
