Borussia Dortmund: Gundogan Will Not Renew His Contract

After manager, Jurgen Klopp, announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, Borussia Dortmund confirmed that midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan will not extend his contract beyond 30th June 2016.

Borussia Dortmund has all but made it official that Ilkay Gundogan is bound to leave the club, come summer. The German club made an announcement stating that the midfielder will not extend his current contract, which comes to an end on 30th June 2016.

This official statement from the club, comes soon after Jurgen Klopp announced his departure, come season end. Gundogan, 24, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club and Manchester United are the favourites to sign the midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

The German club did not state whether the midfielder will be sold in the next window or if he will leave the club for free next year. It seems highly likely that Dortmund will cash in on Gundogan this summer with Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal very much interest in the midfielder.

Gundogana s career has recently suffered due to various injuries. The German suffered a back problem which kept him out of action for almost the entire 2013-14 season and he also missed the World Cup 2014, which his country went on to win.

Gundogan joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has won the Bundesliga and German Cup. The player has featured in 28 games in all competitions this season, scoring three goals.
