Manchester United’s chase of Sergio Ramos has received a massive blow. According to Marca, the Real Madrid captain has agreed to sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2020.
Manchester United had tabled a second bid of A?42.5 million for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, which was rejected immediately by the Los Blancos.
Securing a defender is on top of the cluba s agenda, with Sergio Ramos said to be their priority target.
Earlier reports from Spanish Paper Marca claimed that the English club want Sergio Ramos to push for a move away from Real Madrid.
However, Florentino Perez then met the unsettled defender, making it clear to him that he is not for sale under any circumstance.
Sergio Ramos signs new deal
Recent reports from Marca, however, claim that Sergio Ramos has ended the speculation surrounding his future by agreeing to a new deal with Real Madrid.
The report from Marca, as cited by ESPN FC, says: “The agreement between the club and the player is already reached and will be made official before the start of La Liga season [Aug. 23].”
According to Marca, Sergio Ramos will receive just under a 9 million per season, plus bonuses.
Where does this leave Real Madrid’s pursuit of David De Gea?
David de Gea was widely expected to swap Old Trafford for the Bernabeu, this summer, after the goalkeeper refused a reported A?200,000-per-week offer to stay at Manchester United.
It was reported by reliable papers like the Times, that Manchester United had all but resigned themselves to losing their goalkeeper. However, the deal seemed to have now hit a roadblock, with Manchester United refusing to let the player go for the reported 30 million Euro that has been offered by Real Madrid unless they get Sergio Ramos.
Reports in the Telegraph said that Manchester United had taken a very hard stance on the negotiations for De Gea with Real Madrid. They had made it clear that they are prepared to run down the contract of David De Gea, which has only one year to go, rather than selling Real Madrid the goalkeeper should they not be allowed to secure Sergio Ramos.
Following the reports that Sergio Ramos is now set to sign a new deal at Real Madrid, one wonders if Manchester United will let David De Gea go.
However, following a poor showing in the recent pre-season tie agianst PSG, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was quoted saying that De Gea’s poor showing may have been down to the goalkeeper being distracted.
In that case, it is best for Manchester United to swallow their pride and take a pragmatic decision of letting David De Gea leave for Real Madrid.
