Manchester United‘s Angel di Maria is lucky Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has made such a fuss about leaving Liverpool. Otherwise it was certain that the Argentinean would have been the main subject of transfer stories in England.
According to German magazine Sportbild, Bayern Munich are “weighing up” whether to target former Real Madrid player Angel Di Maria or not. It has been stated that the player is only one of the many targets, but his name has been mentioned which suggests that they are interested in the player’s services.
It was recently revealed by Mirror that Manchester United will only allow Angel Di Maria to leave the club if the attacker actually asks to be sold.
Di Maria has struggled for form during the second half of the season at Old Trafford, which has brought on many reports claiming he is not happy at the club and will look to leave just one year post his arrival.
Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain are the club most seriously interested in the player, whose only start since March came on the final day of the season. On Monday, French newspaper L’Equipe reported that PSG could offer right-back Gregory van der Wiel as part of a deal for Di Maria.
Despite all the claims, di Maria has 3 goals and 10 assists in 27 appearances (20 starts). These are decent numbers, but when one thinks they are coming from the former Real Madrid Champions League winner, it seems a bit of a disappointment. He did start his career at United brightly, scoring three goals and racking up six assists in his first 10 matches. However, in his 22 appearances since then, he has netted just once and grabbed five assists.
For Bayern Munich to land the player, they would need to spend a lot as United wouldn’t want to not make much loss, if not profit, on the player that cost them around 60m GBP last summer.
THT Verdict- Unlikely
PSG are leading the race for the player as several reports have indicated and di Maria has said in the past that he was close to joining the club which means that the player himself had the desire to do so. Bayern Munich have only discussed the player’s name as one of the targets and the fact that he will cost a lot of money will definitely throw them off. It seems more likely that di Maria heads to PSG in the summer if he leaves Manchester United at all. The Argentinean has, in the past, spoken of his desire to stay another year and prove himself at the club.
