Bastian Schweinsteiger Agrees To Manchester United Move

German Captain and World Cup winning midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger has agreed to a move to English giants Manchester United, with a deal between the two clubs close to being finalized, according to reputed German daily Bild.

Schweinsteiger who is in the last year of his contract with the Bavarians, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent times. Earlier, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had confirmed that the 30-year-old was flattered by interest from England.

According to reliable German daily Bild, the mid-fielder who has spent his entire top level career at Bayern Munich, has accepted the Red Devils offer of a A?7.2 million, 3-year-contract, in line with his current deal with Bayern. A key factor, in Schweinsteiger’s decision to sign for Manchester United, has been the chance to unite with former manager Louis Vang Gaal, with whom the combative midfielder enjoys a harmonious relationship.

The report further suggests that, Schweinsteiger is waiting for the approval from Bayern hierarchy, to fly to Manchester to complete the formalities and undergo a medical with the Old Trafford club. However, negotiations are still underway between the two clubs, with an asking price north of A?15 million, said to be the stumbling block.

Manchester United feel that any fee in excess of A?15 million is very high for a 30-year-old midfielder, with only one year left on his current contract at Allianz Arena. The current Bundesliga champions have decided not to stand in the way of Schweini, who has been at the club for 17 years now, and would let him leave for Old Trafford subject to a compensatory fees being finalized.

Manchester United’s lack of world class central midfielders has been well documented over the years, and Louis Van Gaal is desperate to add the veteran midfielder, in a bid to improve his midfield. If the transfer does indeed go through, it would be United’s third of the season, after having already splashed the cash on Dutch sensation Memphis Depay, and with the transfer of Matteo Darmian, as good as done.
