Tevez had made it clear two years ago that he would be returning to Argentina to play for his boyhood club Boca Juniors when his contract expired with Juventus, but Atletico Madrid are making a push for the goal-scorer to join countryman Diego Simeone at the Vicente Calderon.
Atletico are hoping to wrap up the deal before the weekend so that the player can go to Copa America with a clear head with his future sorted.
Tevez had been linked with a move to goal shy Liverpool FC with the club desperate for adding quality upfront following injury issues with Daniel Sturridge. It now seems Liverpool FC will be trumped to the deal by Atletico Madrid.
