Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has shared his thoughts on the Gunners’ profligacy in front of goal. The Frenchman believes that the goals will come for his side and he is not concerned about it.
Arsenal FC have failed to score in their opening two home league games of the season, drawing against Liverpool after having suffered the shock opening day defeat at the hands of West Ham.
The Gunners have a slightly better record on the road, where they have won both the games albeit through own goals. Arsenal FC take on Stoke City tomorrow at the Emirates with an eye on winning the first home game of the season.
Olivier Giroud is the club’s highest scorer so far this season with one goal to his name, while the Gunners have benefitted from two own goals against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United. However, the North London club leads the charts in “chances created” and Arsene Wenger believes that the goals will come for his charges.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official website, Wenger said:
a We have created the chances and thata s what we want to continue to do.
a I believe that the finishing is a bit cyclical, up and down, and we are the team who has created the most chances since the start of the season, so leta s just continue to focus on the quality of our game.”

The Emirates outfit has been criticized for their lack of spending in the transfer window, having failed to recruit even a single senior outfield player. The confirmation of the long-term injury to Danny Welbeck has added further fuel to the fire, but Wenger has reiterated his claim that there was no player available in the market who could have improved the Gunners. He said:
“I have made more than 300 transfers and every time ita s a decision to make. Do you buy the player because he strengthens his squad or not? The solutions we had were not convincing at all. In the end you do not buy to give one hope, you want to buy because the players who come in can help your squad to be stronger. Buying and selling is one way to strengthen your team but thata s not the only way.”
The Frenchman also insisted that he had enough cover in the form of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott to help ease the goalscoring burden on Giroud.
“Of course, I am confident I have enough cover and enough quality. The only good news after the transfer window is that finally we can talk a bit about football. That is what we love and we want to focus now on [how to improve], which is the quality of the work that we do and the quality of our spirit and the quality of our competitiveness which is needed in every single game.”
Arsene Wenger insists Olivier Giroud has his full support
Olivier Giroud has always been on the receiving end of criticism from the Gunners faithful, for there is a general belief in the supporters that the Frenchman lacks the ruthless instinct in front of goal required from a striker if the club wants to challenge for the league title.
The 28-year-old was booed by French fans during France’s friendly against Serbia, having missed a couple of golden opportunities to score. However, Arsene Wenger has insisted that the former Montpellier man has his full support and he will come good.
“He has my full support and I believe that is part of being a striker. There is no striker in the world who has not been questioned. When he missed a chance and is booed, that can happen.”
