Reports coming from Spain claim that David Moyes is interested in bringing Arsenala s Joel Campbell on loan to Real Sociedad, with a view to making it permanent at the end of the season.
Joel Campbell had a wonderful World Cup campaign and everyone believed that he would finally make a breakthrough at Arsenal this season after a couple of loans. However, while he has stayed with the team this season, he hasna t had any success in getting enough appearances, even though his name is constantly there in the 18 man squad for almost every game.
Just like Lukas Podolski, Campbell has cut a frustrated figure, and even though he has not been as the German world cup winner, he would certainly jump at the chance of playing more football rather than sitting on the bench.
David Moyes, who is managing Real Sociedad after his disastrous spell at Manchester United, is offering the Costa Rican youngster the chance for some game time, and Campbell would certainly want to move on if he is allowed to.
However, it will be difficult to see Arsene Wenger letting go of another forward. Lukas Podolski is most definitely leaving for Inter Milan, with only an official confirmation pending, while there are reports that even Yaya Sanogo could be sent out on loan. That would mean 3 forward players leaving in one window, and thata s unprecedented for Arsene, especially in the middle of the season.
That would leave Arsenal with only Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez in the forward line, with Theo Walcott finding his way back into the team. But a suspension here and an injury there would mean players playing out of position, and unless Arsene has a replacement lined up, it is hard to see this loan deal happening.
But as the Lukas Podolski loan shows, if players are not kept happy, they will always want to move on. But to let another discontent player leave would only show how badly he has managed the squad this season. While every manager prefers their own starting XIs, it is important to make the squad players important as well, or else they wouldna t care much about the teama s prospects even when they are brought in for emergency situations.
It will be interesting to see if this deal does go through and if Arsenal bring anyone in as a replacement.
