Arsenal are eyeing Marseille’s Nicolas N’koulou to bolster their defence, according to several reports in England.

Arsenal want to challenge for the title next year and also want to do better in the Champions League and Arsene Wenger naturally understands the need for bolstering his side. While the Gunners boast an impressive attack in Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey among others, their defence could be bettered. Arsenal secured the services of Gabriel Paulista in the winter window and it looks like Wenger isn’t still satisfied with his defence and according to the Daily Express, Arsenal are reportedly keen to step up their interest in Marseille international Nicolas Na Koulou

The Cameroonian made 24 appearances, scoring two goals, and impressed in Marcelo Bielsa’s debut season with the French side.

As a result of his impressive performances, the French cluba s president Vincent Labrune has made it clear that the player will not be sold in the summer, a We know how important he is for us. What he brings us on the pitch is more important than money in a transfer.a

However, if Arsenal make a sizeable offer for the defender, it won’t be surprising to see the player head to London.

N’Koulou vs Koscielny and Mertesacker per 90 via Squawka

As we see from the comparison above, the Cameroon international has done better in all departments per 90 minutes – bar Interceptions – than the Arsenal defensive duo of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker. To be fair, Koscielny is not too far behind in most of the numbers and if N’Koulou is brought in, it is likely that he competes with Mertesacker for a starting spot.

Na Koulou is definitely a player who would improve this current Arsenal squad. He is fast and strong and his physicality will make him adapt to the Premier League with ease.

Marseille will have to be persuaded to part with the 25 year-old, but if Arsenal offer good money, they might be able to land a very solid defender helping them with their title aspirations next year.
