The Red Devils opened the scoring in the first half, when Ander Herrera slammed a volley past David Ospina after Marouane Fellainia s movement inside the box had drawn the defenders towards him.

Arsenal FCa s deadline day recruit of the summer transfer window, Danny Welbeck, scored on his return to Old Trafford to send his new side to Wembley.
After some neat trickery by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the edge of the Manchester United box, the English winger threaded through a ball for on-rushing left-back Nacho Monreal, who slotted home past David De Gea to give the Gunners the lead in the 25th minute.
The lead did not last long, as the Red Devilsa captain, Wayne Rooney, nodded home an Angel di Maria cross to rack up his 14th goal against Arsenal FC.
However, it was the Manchester United academy product, who scored against his boyhood club, capitalizing on an under-hit Antonio Valencia back pass, before rounding off David De Gea to score the winner for the Gunners.
Angel di Mariaa s tryst with the English Premier League went from bad to worse as the Argentine was sent-off after picking up two bookings in as many minutes, first for diving and the second for pushing referee Michael Oliver.

Van Gaala s side had failed to win any of their previous six fixtures on the road, but the win over the Gunners helped the Red Devils enter the top four. Jack Wilshere, who was probably Arsenal FCa s best player on the pitch, was substituted after a Paddy McNair challenge resulted in ligament damage to the English midfielder.
Arsenal FC dominated the game for large parts, but were unable to find a breakthrough. The Gunners then conceded in comical fashion when goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny took out his own teammate Kieran Gibbs as the Polish international made a mess of an Ashley Young cross. Antonio Valencia got on the end of the clearance and his cross ricocheted off Gibbs to open the scoring for the Red Devils. The Pole was injured in this mix-up and had to be replaced by debutant Damian Martinez.
Wayne Rooney capitalised as Arsenal FC tried to force things through, latching on to a Di Maria through ball before lifting the ball over Martinez.
Olivier Giroud, who was coming back after a layoff due to a leg fracture, scored a thunderous drive in the 9 minutes of stoppage time, but the Gunners failed to find a second goal. The Gunners were left with only 17 points from 12 games after the disappointing defeats at the hands of Manchester United.
