Arsenal FC: Comfortable Knowing Coquelin Is Behind, Ready To Fight For His Place, Says Ramsey

Ramsey's injury comes as a huge blow for Wenger

Arsenala s Aaron Ramsey has praised the work done by Francis Coquelin since his return to the side.

The Wales international explained his importance to the team in general and for his own performance in particular.

a Hea s been really good,a Ramsey told Arsenal Player. a Hea s very aggressive and doesna t give the opposition much time on the ball, and thata s why he wins so many tackles. Then he wins the ball and makes us tick over.

a Ita s been really good to see his development this year, hea s had a superb couple of months now so hopefully he can continue that.

a It is quite comforting knowing that one of the midfielders is behind you in position, thinking more defensively. It is something that he does really well.a

Ramsey also said that the number of top players competing for midfield positions has been the fiercest this season when compared to recent years, but he says thata s a good thing for the team.

a There are a number of players who are more than capable of putting in good performances in the middle and we have shown that with the number of different combinations wea ve had this season,a Ramsey said.

a Therea s definitely a fight for our places and everyone is keeping each other on their toes – ita s good that we have that strength in depth now.a

For Arsenal fans, the focus will be on whether or not Coquelin can continue his rich vein of form till the end of the season and beyond. While he has been wonderful in the short term, whether he can continue producing the goods in the long term would be a question that would be on everyonea s mind.

It would indeed be a little bit suspect to want to place your faith on a player that hadna t really showed the same level of efficiency and effectiveness in all his years at the club but has suddenly come good. With rumours of Scnheiderlin and Reus still strong for Arsenal, it will be interesting to see what Arsene Wenger does in the summer.

For Ramsey himself, the season has not been as productive as the one before, but he would be looking to give it his all throughout the rest of the remaining games and ensure that Arsenal finish on a high, and successfully defend their FA Cup. Focusing on the task at hand would be more important for Ramsey rather than looking at trying to be a goalscoring midfielder to the detriment of the team.
