Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that his spell at the club so far has been a happy one as he is slowly but surely establishing himself as a key player in the team.
After an inconsistent first half of the season, Herrera has shown in the last few games why United paid a hefty fee of a 36m for his services. The Spaniard suffered an injury setback at the beginning of his Manchester United career as an ankle injury followed by a fractured rib did not let him stake his claim in the United lineup.
However, the 25-year old has said that even when he wasn’t playing, he felt happy being at the club, a Ia m very happy. Even when I wasn’t playing I was also happy. Ia m at Manchester United. I feel really lucky to be here.

After United’s victory over Burnley, Herrera has appeared in six consecutive games (he started in all of them). He has also scored thrice in those six games which has taken his goals tally to five in the League. Herrera isn’t known for his goals as his highest goals return in any team until now is five for Athletic Bilbao. With Eight games to go, Herrera has already matched that tally this season and can try and improve it further.
Herrera’s role in the team isn’t about goals, as much of the work he does is underappreciated just like the case with Michael Carrick. Herrera has been used as a central midfielder by Louis Van Gaal, but the diminutive midfielder definitely has a box-to-box attribute about him. That being said, he could be a long-term replacement for Carrick as the English midfielder is at the twilight of his career. The signs that Herrera could be United’s next Paul Scholes is definitely there and the United faithful will hope that the Spaniard realises that potential.
