Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has questioned the decision to show the second yellow card to Aaron Ramsey in the 0-0 draw with Besiktas last night.
Besiktas hosted Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League qualifiers and the match ended 0-0 as both teams struggled to score a goal. The Gunners played the last ten minutes of the match with 10-men as Aaron Ramsey was sent off for his second bookable offense and Arsene Wenger has questioned the refereeai??i??s decision to do so.
“It’s not serious to get the second yellow card when you see the kind of fouls they have made today.
“It’s unacceptable.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Besiktas started the match brightly with Demba Ba testing Szczesny from the kick-off as he spotted the goalkeeper off his line. But both the team squandered opportunities to score the winner and Wenger hopes that his team can now produce the required result at home in the second leg.
“It was a difficult game, played at a good pace, a frenetic pace, from the first to the last minute and we could have won it.
“We had chances to win the game, but we couldn’t do it.
“They had chances as well in the first half especially, but in the end we didn’t lose the game and hopefully we’ll make it at home.” ai??i?? He added.
The Frenchman believes that his side can still improve a lot in the next game and grab a place in the group stages of the Champions League.
“Our target is to play better every game.
“Technically we can do better, and will aim to do so in the next game.” ai??i?? He said in his post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Besiktas manager Slaven Bilic has insisted that his side deserved to win the game for their performance last night.
“It was a great game to watch, it wasnai??i??t like a usual boring 0-0. It was a very offensive game. I’m so proud of my boys.
“Arsenal had chances but I think we deserved to win. Our chances were a little bit better. It was a good result for us and we’re still alive.
“We go to the Emirates in one week with even more confidence than we had before this game.
“For the majority of my players, this was the first time that theyai??i??ve played against big guys and they were worried, asking ‘are we any good?’
“After this, they know theyai??i??re good. We have a plan, we have a dream.” ai??i?? Bilic said.
Bilic believes his side can take advantage of the fact that Ramsey will be missing the second leg and get an away result to book their place in the group stages.
“They’re going to be without Ramsey, who, for me, is the top man in the team.
