Louis van Gaal has insisted that Danny Welbeck, who joined Arsenal FC this summer, was not up to the standards required for Manchester United.
Danny Welbeck completed his much talked about move from Manchester United to rivals Arsenal on the deadline day for A?16Ai??million. His move was greeted with mixed reactions among the Arsenal fans, who were expecting a more ai???establishedai??i?? striker to be signed in that window, following Olivier Giroudai??i??s injury. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal might just have added a bit more spice to it, insisting Welbeck was not up to the standards required at Old Trafford.
Danny Welbeck has been at Manchester United since the age of eight, but the England international fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The arrival of Radamel Falcao on the deadline day also pushed him on the brink of move as he searched for regular first team action.
Welbeck has often been played out of position as a winger or wide forward for both United and England in the past and the 23-year-old has been craving for opportunities to play through the middle as a striker. Despite scoring only 29 goals in 142 appearances for Manchester United, Welbeck does have a good goal scoring record for England and once again showed glimpses of his ability as he scored a brace against Switzerland.
Louis van Gaal however feels that Welbeck was not up to the standard, especially in comparison to Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao. The Dutchman feels that Welbeck has had his chance and it is time for United to provide chances to other youngsters in the squad.
