According to recent reports, Manchester United have agreed to appoint Louis van Gaal as their new manager and are likely to announce the news over the next week.
After days of speculation regarding David Moyesai??i?? successor at Old Trafford, it seems the Dutch national team coach, Van Gaal, has been zeroed in as the next Manchester United manager. Reports confirm that the club has agreed to a 2 year deal with the Dutch coach who will take up the responsibility after the World Cup in Brazil.
Though there was a huge wave of support for Ryan Giggs to be appointed as the permanent manager at Old Trafford, it is believed that the Board members were not keen on taking a risk after David Moyesai??i?? debacle and hence have opted for a more reliable manager in Van Gaal. Though the Dutchman is notorious for his managerial philosophy, one that has often divided dressing-rooms, he has an impeccable CV and his attacking style is sure to find many fans at Old Trafford. After a miserable campaign under David Moyes, one that saw Manchester United being kicked out of European football for the coming season, the club is taking no chances this time around and is desperate to get back to its old successful days.
However the Dutch manager has assured the Manchester United board that he does not have a magic wand to bring success to Old Trafford and hence wants the assurance that the club will back him in his pursuit of certain key players. Though it was David Moyes who paid the price at Old Trafford, there is no doubt that the Red Devils are in urgent need of a make-over and Van Gaal is reportedly pushing for three key German players in his bid to improve things.
Tony Kroos, Marco Reus and Mats Hummels are apparently high up on his transfer list and the Dutchman has sought Unitedai??i??s assurance with regards to the funds required to satisfy such high-profile deals. The three players are not going to cost anything less than A?100million and hence Manchester United will be spending big under Van Gaal if they are to turn their fortunes around. The club also has other positions to strengthen, especially that of its full backs and probably another central midfielder.
It is also reported that Manchester United are keen to target Cesc Fabregas who seems to be on his way out of Camp Nou this summer. Despite having figured prominently under Tata Martino, many believe that Fabregas will leave Barcelona this summer and could well be on his way to England. Several clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring his situation. Manchester United came close to signing him last summer and as reported earlier, Ed Woodward believes that United can successfully negotiate for Cesc Fabregas this time around.
However, it now remains to be seen if bringing in several new faces at Old Trafford will really improve Manchester Unitedai??i??s fortunes in the coming season.
