Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood and Midfielder Sandro has been at loggerheads for quite some time now. The Brazilian midfielder isn’t a favourite of the young British manager as the latter hasn’t preferred playing the defensive midfielder since he took charge over the affairs.
Brazilian Sandro and Belgian Moussa Dembele formed a brilliant partnership last season under Andre Villas Boas, which was key to Tottenham’s success then. Spurs looked unbeaten when the duo ran the show from the middle of the park and an injury proved out to be the villain. Since then, Tottenham’s fortunes took a nosedive and the team bowed out of Champions League places. The Lack of adequate cover in central midfield was widely discussed and criticized then.
This Summer Andre Villas Boas opted to strengthen his team with the help of Franco Baldini. Spurs recruited French Defensive midfelder Etienne Capoue and Brazilian Box-to-Box Midfielder Paulinho to provide competition for places and to upgrade the squad. Capoue was seen as an alternative to Sandro while Paulinho was expected to provide much needed energy and drive in the pattern of Dembele. Andre Villas Boas’s reign was an indication that competition for places has increased the quality of midfield and the players cherished the opportunities which came their way.
Things took an unexpected turn since the sacking of AVB as Tim Sherwood had other ideas. New manager tried out various combinations in midfield, and even ditched defensive midfielders from his squad sheet. The arrival of youngsters Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane can be credited to Tim Sherwood’s faith. But his experimentation of fielding Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli, Gylfi Sigurdsson in an unnatural central midfield position at the expense of more established regulars hasn’t gone down well.
Paulinho’s World Cup place was in doubt due to Tim Sherwood’s rotation while Capoue and Sandro hasn’t made the trip at all. Sandro cut a frustrated figure and he has expressed his displeasure over Tim Sherwood on quite a few occasions. The rumour’s of a new manager replacing Tim Sherwood has gained some momentum over the past weeks and the latest inputs gives a better picture.
