A solid defender who tracks backs his opponents to perfection, Ashley will feature in Rudi Garcia’s 4-3-3 formation, wherein he would play a crucial role to support Gervinho on the left flank.
Juan Manuel Iturbe

After having a brilliant 2013/14 season with Hellas Verona, wherein he single-handedly lead the club to a 10th place finish, Juan Iturbe has captured the hearts of many. The Argentinian is quick on the ball, has an eye for goal and can also pick a pass. Operating mostly as right winger, Juan Manuel Iturbe’s transfer to Roma is perhaps one of the greatest moves, Walter Sabatini has ever pulled. Poised to sign for rivals Juventus, Sabatini literally hijacked the proceeding and brought Iturbe to Rome on a 22 million Euro transfer. Juan Iturbe averaged 3 dribbles per game only behind Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado. In Garcia’s rapid attacking unit, Iturbe will feature as the right winger in a 4-3-3 playing alongside captain Francesco Totti and Gervinho. Adding another dimension to i lupi, Iturbe will also grow in his time with the Romans, providing numerous eye catching moments in the process.
Alvaro Morata

Even after an injury to his left knee, days after joining Juventus, Alvaro Morata’s transfer remains colossal. The Spanish International featured a total of three times in Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Despite the limited action, Morata managed to score eight goals with a conversion rate of 69%, an exceptional statistic for a bit-part player. His inclusion in the Juventus squad will certainly increase the depth and the quality of the Bianconeri. A hard worker off the ball, Morta excels in the air with clinical finishing ability and excellent movement.. Although his passing technique still remains a worry, but under the guidance of masters such as Andrea Pirlo, he will improve during his time in Turin. Compared to Real Madrid legend Fernando Morienties because of his style of play, the 21 year old will take some of the goal-scoring responsibilities off the shoulders of Carlos Tevez and fellow countryman Fernando Llorente.

After an inspired World Cup, Stefan De Vrij attracted a lot of attention by renowned clubs all over Europe. In a classic sweep by the Biancocelesti, defeating the likes of Manchester United, the other-team-from-Rome displayed sound acumen by signing De Vrij. A center-back capable enough of operating in a three men defense, De Vrij was one of the two Dutch players to be selected for World Cup Team of the Tournament. Already familiar with the 3-man defensive pattern, De Vrij will fight for his place with veterans such as Michael Ciani. The signing of De Vrij also subtracts the ageing Lazio squad. At 22, De Vrij has a lot to learn from the Italian powerhouses and under the guidance of Stefano Pioloi.
Jonathan De Guzman

It is strange how Premier League mid-table clubs excluded him from their transfer activities. The Premier League’s loss is the Serie A’s gain. Jonathan De Guzman came into the limelight with his two year stint at Swansea. He developed into a more technical player, playing alongside Miguel Michu. A midfielder who can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder and even as a Pivot, De Guzman has a lot to offer in Rafa Benitez’s 4-2-3-1. Brought in as a substitute to fill in Marek Hamisk’s boots, De Guzman portrayed his skill and class by scoring a late winner against Genoa, in a 2-1 win. Jonathan De Guzman’s transfer has not rung many bells, but over the course of the Italian season his inclusion and stints with the Neopolitans will get its due. Especially if his chemistry with Miguel Michu, can be harnessed to its fullest by Benitez.
The Italian peninsula has not lost many of its star players this time around, in what is a strange scenario. Juventus have held on to Arturo Vidal, Fiorentina have held on to Juan Cuardrado and even AS Roma have held on to the core of the team, despite the loss of Mehdi Benatia. The sad demise of Italian football is for all to see, with neither of the teams capable of splashing big money in transfers. The Mercato has always been an Italian fascination and it would be right to say that, these player could very well rejuvenate the league as well as the team. Being reduced to a two-horse race and dropping down to fifth in the UEFA Rankings, the league need a shot in the arm as far as competition goes and perhaps even a better style of play. The 2014/15 Season which kicked off on the 30th of August has everything a Calcio lover could want.
