Wilfried Bonyai??i??s future at Swansea City has come under a lot of speculations this summer with Liverpool reportedly lining up a move for the Ivorian striker. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has criticized the Merseyside club for approaching Bony without their consent.
Wilfried Bony arrived at Swansea City last season after producing some stunning performances for Vitesse. The 25-year-old striker took some time to settle down in the Premier League, but ended the season with 16 goals in 27 starts (25 goals in all competitions). His consistent performances over the last two seasons has drawn a lot of attention from a host of European clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
The Reds are believed to be the front runners in the race for Bonyai??i??s signature as they look to replace Luis Suarez. The prolific Uruguayan striker has completed his much talked about move to Barcelona and Liverpool are looking to invest the transfer fee back into the squad.
Despite the presence of Daniel Sturridge, who was the second highest goal scorer in the Premier League last season, and the arrival of Rickie Lambert from Southampton in the summer, Brendan Rodgers is keen to add another striker to his squad and he sees Wilfried Bony as the perfect fit.
Reports suggest that Liverpool are willing to trigger the A?19m release clause in Bonyai??i??s contract and have already held talks with the player and his agent. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has however criticized this move by Liverpool and has insisted that they have received no official approach from them.
“I have no idea about that. The only thing I’d say is I’m completely unaware of contact between Liverpool and myself.
“I was very surprised to hear and disappointed to hear that Liverpool had gone down that route and were talking to the player behind behind my club’s back. I’m disappointed that Liverpool are acting in that manner. No official approach has been made to me or our football club.” ai??i?? Jenkins said in an interview.
Meanwhile, latest rumours suggest that Tottenham Hotspur, who are also in the market for a new striker, are willing to compete with Liverpool for Bonyai??i??s signature.
