Swansea City secured the signing of Arsenal‘s FA Cup hero Lukas Fabianski on a free transfer. Poland International is expected to replace Liverpool bound Michel Vorm as Swansea City number 1.
Poland Goal keeper Lukas Fabianski arrived at the Emirates in 2007 from Legia Warsaw. Since the he remained as the back-up goal keeper at Arsenal and was craving for first team opportunities. Lukas Fabianski served as an understudy to Jens Lehmann, Manuel Almunia, and Wojociech Szczesny but failed to displace them as the number 1 custodian in his seven year association with the North London club.
The emergence of Wojociech Szczesny from Arsenal’s youth system was the biggest setback Lukas Fabianski faced in his career. Fabiasnki was challenging Almunia for the number 1 spot that time, but the academy product pushed both of them down to emerge as the new number. Even though Lukas Fabianski remained as the Cup goalkeeper, he was looking for more playing time which he rarely got at the Emirates Stadium. In 2013-14 season, Lukas Fabianski played a key role ending the trophy less run of Arsene Wenger’s side. His performances in FA Cup was remarkable and he guided the team through a penalty shoot-out win in semi finals and guarded the post in the memorable final victory as well.
Lukas Fabianski played only 14 matches in 2013-14 season and announced his intention to leave the club in search of regular playing time. Even though Arsenal tried to persuade him by offering a new contract, Lukas Fabianski rejected their approach and opted to depart the club at the end of his contract.
Swansea City was facing an uncertainty over the future of their number 1 goal keeper Michel Vorm, as he was linked with a move to Premier League runners up Liverpool. Lukas Fabiasnki got offers from a number of European clubs and Swansea City offer attracted them as he saw the chance to become their number 1 goalkeeper next season. Even if Michel Vorm stays, Lukas Fabianski is expected to challenge him and stands a realistic chance of becoming their Premier League goal keeper.
“The main reason I came to Swansea was because I want to be the number one goalkeeper. I want to play week-in, week-out. It’s going to be a real fight, but I’m not afraid of that. Competition is always good, so I think everyone will take positives from that.”

I’m really looking forward to starting with my new team-mates and I think it’s going to be a fantastic new chapter in my life. I will be working hard for the club, giving everything every single day. I can promise that.”
Lukas Fabiasnki has played 78 games for Arsenal, out of which 32 appearances were in English Premier League. Poland International has 21 caps to his name and is regarded as a coup for Swansea City manager Gary Monk.
