Spain were hammered by Holland on Friday but FC Barcelona star Jordi Alba feels that the group is more united than ever to succeed in the World Cup.
Jordi Alba accepted that the mood in the dressing room is ai???very downai??? at the moment as such heavy defeat was not anticipated but feels that they are now ready to come back.
“They put five goals past us, which is something I don’t think anyone was expecting. We were the better team in the first half, but after the break everything went against us. Nothing came off for us, our heads dropped after the third goal and we paid the price”, the BarAi??elona full-back was speaking to Marca.
Alba feels that La Roja has what it takes to make a strong come back and the result will be there for everybody to be seen after a game against Chile. “We have to go all out against Chile to get the win. This is going to make us much stronger; the team is more united than ever. Our aim is to get through to the next round and we are going to try to do so”, he said.
Lot of players have raised the concerns over the climate conditions of Brazil. But the Spanish left back stressed that this is not an issue. “The team is fine physically. The conditions are the same for every team and even if we’re not firing on all cylinders, that’s no excuse. The coaching staff are working to ensure we’re in the best possible shape”, he said.
Spain defenders made many blunders during the whole game and all critics have slammed them for such poor display. Alba also feels that this is something unusual and they have to improve quickly. “We conceded the sort of silly goals we hadn’t let in at other tournaments. After having hardly conceded at the previous World Cup and the European Championship, it’s surprising to let in five in the opening match”.
Spain still have to face Chile and Australia in their remaining group stage fixture. La Roja will have to win them both to make a progress from the group stage.
Del Bosque: No Drastic Changes
Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has claimed that he will not make much drastic changes in his starting line-up after the heavy defeat against Holland.
“There might be one or two changes, but this is not the right moment to talk about them. We don’t want to rush into things and make the wrong decisions. In any case, if there were any changes it wouldn’t be to single anyone out”, Del Bosque said.
