No pressure, but if you donai??i??t prove to be the best thing since sliced bread, we will promptly start ignoring you and begin fantasizing about your possible replacements.
Football fans love the promise of a new singing. Fans refuse to treat new signings like the walking Schrodingerai??i??s Cat they are: the signing inside the box is half Liverpool Fernando Torres and half Chelsea Fernando Torres, simultaneously. Instead they quickly proceed to imagine what wonders this individual is going to bring to their club.
The reality is that most players donai??i??t always set the world on fire in their first season with a new club. Often it is players that have been around since the previous season who end up shining. Just look at Luis Suarez, who only scored 11 goals in his first full season (2011-12) at Liverpool FC. The Argentine joined Tottenham in midst of much fanfare. Here was the marquee signing Spurs fans so badly wanted, the attacking midfielder/ winger who would fill the massive left-footed Welshman shaped hole left by the departure of a certain player was sold to Real Madrid. All hail, Erik Lamela! All hail, Erik Lamela!
Wait, where is Erik Lamela? The season was a series of over-lapping phases where Lamela was either injured or was not convincing enough on the pitch for his manager ( ai???tactical geniusai??i?? Andre Villas-Boas and sulky Tim Sherwood) to play him. It wasnai??i??t always clear when which of these was applicable, but the result was that Spurs fans rarely got to see their shiny new toy in action.
But all that should change this season. He has been fit for pre-season, and the new manager Mauricio Pochettino (finally someone competent at the helm of the Lily Whites) seems to have faith in him. He has already scored a goal in a friendly against Celtic that Spurs won 6-1.
Marouane Fellaini

Belgian Marouane Fellaini is quite an odd case study. In many ways, the story of his last two seasons is very much a football clichAi?? brought to reality. Player gains fame while playing for a smaller club. Player makes big money move to big club. Big club doesnai??i??t play him in the same roles where he played for the smaller club, and the player is castigated by fans and critics for not playing up to the expected levels. People start wondering if perhaps he should have stayed at the smaller club, where the manager knew how to fully utilize his skills. Only, in this story, the manager of the smaller and bigger clubs (Everton 2012-13 and Man United 2013-14) is the same man: one David Moyes. The Scot played him in a number of positions in midfield, but failed to get the most out of him at any point.
But the midfielder is still only 26 years old. While the last season may have been a complete disaster, the one before was an unqualified success. Scoring 12 goals from midfield in itself is commendable, but his impact on Evertonai??i??s game cannot be measured in statistics. He was one of their biggest attacking threats, with his runs from midfield and aerial threat being excellent assets for any team to have.
Victor Wanyama

The Kenyan captain had a quiet season last time around, but he is undoubtedly an excellent talent. His ability to shield the defensive line is incredible, and carries a certain physical swagger. He was signed from Celtic for a rumored A?12.5m, which was a fair sum to pay for someone who was the best young player in the Scottish Premier League that season.
At Southampton, he has been somewhat overshadowed by the excellent Morgan Schneiderlin. The pair recorded the teamai??i??s highest tackling stats, with Schneiderlin having 3.4 tackles/game and Wanyama at 2.8. They were also the midfielders with the highest number of interceptions, with Schneiderlin at 2.1 per game and Wanyama at 1.4. With Schneiderlinai??i??s future at Southampton still a matter of much speculation, this could be Wanyamaai??i??s season to shine. If new manager Ronald Koeman fails to retain the French midfielder, the Kenyan dynamo would be a more than capable back-up.

With Pochettino at the helm, the Spaniard can expect to receive far better service from midfield as compared to last season.
