Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a list of the players he wants at White Hart Lane this January and Hector Moreno apparently tops it
Mauricio Pochettino’s side is struggling in the league so far. With 14 points from 11 games, Spurs are presently in the 12th spot in the league. Safe to say, Pochettino is getting his critics. Nobody above them in the league has conceded more goals than Spurs (16) barring Everton (18) who are in the tenth spot, equal on points with Spurs and Liverpool.
The Argentine is is set to return to former club Espanyol for defender Hector Moreno. The former Saints bossAi??has identified 26 year old Moreno as the man who can strengthen his defence.Ai??The central defender was bought to Espanyol from AZ AlkmaarAi??by Pochettino in 2011. Moreno has 57 caps for Mexico, and was instrumental in Mexico’s great World Cup campaign. Mexico only conceded one goal in the group stages, coming against Croatia in a largely meaningless way.Ai??Moreno was outstanding against Brazil and greatly slowed down their world-class attack. His game against Croatia was also top-notch.
Manchester United, Inter Milan, Marseille and Tottenham were all linked with a move for him after the World Cup.Ai??Ai??However, he suffered a fractured tibia in his left leg just minutes before half time in the Mexico’s 2-1 defeat to Netherlands, which ruled him out for five months. It is not hard to figure out why Spurs are so keen on Moreno. The Mexican defender is solid and composed at the back. He also has good leadership and organizational skills. The North Londeners are currently in need for someone like him and Moreno would make for a good addition in their squad. The fact that Pochettino has already worked with him puts Spurs in a good position. Louis van Gaal has also worked with the player at AZ and if United reignite their interest, their Premier League rivals could find their task a lot tougher.
