Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he will look to land Liverpool‘s on loan star Pepe Reina on a permanent basis this summer.
Pepe Reina moved to Napoli in the summer transfer window on a season long loan deal from Liverpool. The Premier League club had acquired the services of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and it seemed evident that the Spaniard was surplus to the club’s requirements.
Through the course of the season, Reina has time and again said that he would talk about his future at the end of the season and has reiterated the fact that he would only be focused on the present. There are several sides who are believed to be looking at him for a possible move in the summer, with Barcelona the ones most speculated about.
Napoli are enjoying a fruitful league campaign, and could possibly end it in the second place. Their league standings were given a boost after the 2-0 win over league leaders Juventus.
Rafa Benitez had commented in the past that he would want Reina to make his stay permanent and it seems that now, even the club president De Laurentiis, echos Bentiez’s sentiments.
De Laurentiis told a press conference after the Sunday’s 2-0 victory over table-topping Juventus:
“After yesterday’s victory I went down to the locker room and I promised the players a bonus if they can finish second.
“Then I talked to Reina and told him that he must remain with us. I want him confirmed for next season.Ai??”He was happy, for him it was a double reward.”

Napoli, though, hope that they can persuade the 31-year-old to remain in Serie A and help them to build on a productive campaign which could see them snatch second place.
