Bayern Munich defender Dante and his agent have dismissed reports claiming that the Brazilian has agreed a deal with Manchester United.
Dante has been one of the most consistent center-backs in Europe for the last two seasons and became a crucial part of the Bayern Munich squad since joining club in 2012. The Brazilian rose to prominence with some eye catching performances for Borussia Monchengladbach, which eventually led to this transfer to Bayern.
Danteai??i??s current contract with the reigning European champions expires in 2016, but there has been reports linking him with a move away from the Allianz Arena. Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old as David Moyes looks to revitalize his side in this transfer window. United do have a lot of options at the back currently, especially for the center-back role, but a close look reveals why this could turn out to be good move. Both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are approaching the fag end of their careers and could possibly leave the club at the end of this season. Chris Smalling hasnai??i??t been consistent enough with his performances, while Phil Jones has often been used elsewhere on the pitch. Jonny Evans is the perhaps the only United defender who has performed with any consistency this season. The Red Devils have looked vulnerable at the back this season and someone like Dante will surely be a massive boost.
But it must also be noted that the squad faces more pressing concerns elsewhere in the pitch ai??i?? namely in the midfield and the full backs. Juan Mata has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford in this window, which suggest that the reigning Premier League Champions are looking quite a few addition to their squad in this window.
Dante for his part has welcomed Manchester Unitedai??i??s interest and kept his options open for the future.
“What I can say is that my agents are the ones who handle deals and talks.
“I am happy at Bayern and the most important is to keep working, I am happy with Man Utd’s interest, let’s see what happens in the future.”
“I follow the Premier League and although Man Utd are in a bad moment, I appreciate the interest.”
He concluded: “We have to wait until 31 January, a lot can happen in the future.” ai??i?? The Brazilian international said in an interview.
His agent, Marcus Marin, has however denied reports of a deal being agreed with the English club and suggested that they will look for an new contract with Bayern Munich before the end of this season. He also revealed that Manchester United have expressed interest in Dante in the past as well, before his move to the German giants.
“There is no agreement with Manchester United.
“We are currently in negotiations with Bayern over a new deal and his first option is to play there.
“He is very happy in Germany at the moment but if nothing can be arranged in the next few weeks then of course he would have to explore his options elsewhere.
“Dante is at a crucial stage of his career so he needs to think about one last big contract. He has had a brilliant year and won several medals so we know how important the next few months will be.
“We are hoping that something can be resolved before the World Cup.
“Manchester United followed him two years ago. We were in talks with them, but then he ended up at Bayern.
“They are a very good club – and a very big club – so it would be interesting if they were interested in Dante, although I stress we have not spoken to anyone.” ai??i??Marin added.
