Though Kagawa has long been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, his agent has come out in strong denial of such rumours, stating that the Japanese midfielder is content at Old Trafford.
Brought from Borussia Dortmund in 2012 under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Shinji Kagawa has endured a tumultuous start in England which saw him struggle for game time in his first two seasons with Manchester United.
Kagawa made 17 starts under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2012-2013 season, one that saw him score a hat-trick against Norwich, but fell down the pecking order under Ferguson’s successor, David Moyes. The creative midfielder made 13 starts this season, despite being free from any injuries, and was used mainly on the wings instead of in a more central position. The arrival of Juan Mata this January further threatened any chances of him playing in the preferred CAM position with the Red Devils.
It was hence reported that Kagawa was unhappy with his situation at Manchester United and will be looking for a way out in the coming transfer-window. He was linked with a move back to Borussia Dortmund and has recently been linked with a move to Napoli.
However, Kagawaai??i??s agent Thomas Kroth has come out in denial of such rumours and has made it quite clear that the former Dortmund player has his heart set on playing for Manchester United. He denied any links with Napoli, dismissing suggestions that Rafa Benitez had made contact with the player:

“He is not unhappy at Manchester United, so there’s no reason to talk about him departing to another club.”
But though his agent has denied the rumours surrounding Kagawaai??i??s future, insisting that he will not be leaving come summer, it remains to be seen if the midfielder could fit into the starting eleven at Old Trafford. Following Juan Mataai??i??s costly arrival from Chelsea earlier this year, it is quite certain that the Spaniard will be playing as an attacking midfielder, which means that Kagawa will have to operate on the wings, a position that he is not most comfortable with. Though Kagawa has shown a lot of promise, he has not particularly sparkled in his presence on the wings which means that he is far from being guaranteed a starting position at Manchester United.
With Louis Van Gaal reportedly set on taking over the reins at Manchester United, it seems that Kagawa has his heart set on fighting for a starting position under the new manager. However Manchester United are reportedly targeting Tony Kroos and Marco Reus as possible transfers this summer which means that Kagawa might find himself amongst the substitutes on more than one occasion.
So will the Japanese midfielder pack up his gear and realize that his Manchester United dream has come to an end, or will he stay and fight for a place under their allegedly new Dutch manager? Only time will tell.
