Manchester United are facing setback in the transfer market as they are set to lose out on Mats Hummels and Stefan de Vrij
Mats Hummels was reportedly United’s prime defensive target as Louis van Gaal was keen on bringing in the Germany international to Old Trafford. However, it now seems that the Manchester club can lose out on the player as Barcelona have stepped up their interest in the defender. Luis Enrique is keen to replace Carles Puyol with a capable player as he looks to put the club’s disappointing last season behind and target trophies in the new campaign. De Vrij going to Lazio instead of United
Manchester United have been linked with a lot of the Dutch internationals in the last few days as having a coach who recently led the national side in the World Cup would lead to a lot of speculation Stefan de Vrij was another such target.Ai??United were reportedly closing in on a A?7million deal.
Feyenwood sporting director Van Geel told De Telegraaf that de Vrij could leave the club if a right offer came along, giving boost to United’s chances. There were reports that United had already signed the player, during the World Cup. But his agent went on to clarify that no agreement had been reached and any reports stating otherwise were incorrect.
Now it seems that the talented defender is headed to Lazio in Serie A after Lazio Sporting director Igli Tare has revealed that the player’s agent never even spoke to Manchester United and de Vrij would be playing for Lazio next season.

“His agent has said clearly that he has never been to Manchester to meet with the English club. De Vrij’s will is to play in Lazio.”
