Manchester United : Inter Confirm The Signing Of Vidic; Berg Feels He Could Have Stayed

Inter Milan have officially confirmed that Manchester United defender Nemaja Vidic will join them next season.

The 32-year-old has been an integral part of the Manchester United side since his arrival from Spartak Moscow in 2006, but this will be his last season at Old Trafford. Since 2011-12 season, the Serbian international has faced a lot of fitness concerns and has had limited contribution in the Premier League. Vidic, who has already won five Premier League titles along with one Champions League and three League Cups during his tenure, is currently in the last year of his current contract and he has already announced his departure from Old Trafford, officially, earlier this season.

David Moyes suggested that it was ai???mutualai??? decision, and the only question that remained was where will Vidic play next season. Inter Milan were always the front runners, with his agent confirming their interest. The Italian club has now officially announced the signing of Nemanja Vidic for next season. Vidic is expected to be one of the many new arrivals at San Siro next season as new owners look to overhaul the squad after a fairly disappointing season.

Erick Thohir, owner of the Italina club, has expressed his delighted at having secured the move for such an experienced defender.

“Vidic is a world-class player. I’m extremely happy to have completed this deal to bring Nemanja to Milan.

“He’s one of the world’s best defenders and his qualities, international pedigree and charisma will be an asset to the team and help bring through our younger players.

“He will bring added value to the club and is another piece of the great Inter side we are building.

Vidicai??i??s agent, Silvano Martina, has also released a statement on Vidicai??i??s behalf stating his pleasure at having secure this move. He also confirmed that the negotiation with the Italian club began in January, while insisting that the Serbian will now do his best for Manchester United for the remainder of this tenure.

“Nemanja is excited about the choice he’s made. He had already decided to leave Manchester United, and Inter was a really interesting option.

“On January 1st negotiations began. That’s when all the parties started talking. Nemanja loved everything about this project and hopes to carry the club forward.

“Nemanja is a professional though, so right now he wants to do well for Manchester United, honouring the club and the fans.” ai??i?? Martina said.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender Henning Berg believes Vidic hasnai??i??t departed from Old Trafford for footballing reasons and insisted that he had more to give to the club. Berg also feels that this decision is not something that was forced upon Vidic, in fact it was the defender who wanted a new challenge.

“He’s still vital to the club so I don’t think it’s a football decision. He’s been there for a long time now, so I think it’s simply down to the player wanting to do something different.

“He’s a fantastic leader and a top player – one of the best central defenders that they’ve had – and I’m sure he’d like to go out on a high note.

“He could still play on for United. Like Stam, I believe he’s leaving when there’s more years left in him. But I don’t think this is a decision made by the club, or [David Moyes] the manager; this is purely down to Vidic wanting to do something different.” ai??i??
