As far as football rivalries go, there is nothing quite in the English Premier League that matches the ferocity of a Manchester United and Liverpool clash. Locked in a head-on battle for decades, one that ended with Sir Alex Ferguson knocking the scousers off their perch, the rivalry looks set to take quite a drastic turn with the appointment of David Moyes as the manager at Old Trafford.
Though it may be a bit early to write off United under Moyes, the ensuing clash on Sunday will see two old rivals take guard as they look to fight for pride and three crucial points. Liverpool emerged as the winner in the first encounter, beating United by a single goal at Anfield and Moyes has his task cut out for him as United host Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford.
The Liverpool juggernaut is one that refuses to stop rolling. With Suarez and Sturridge leading the Reds, they have been on a goal-scoring spree this season. Sitting on the second spot in the league, Liverpool have scored 73 goals already this season, two more than they did in 38 games last year. Fight For The Three Points
Having already dubbed Liverpool as the favourites to win the match, Moyes has to be careful in his approach to the game. United should avoid playing defensive wingers in the form of Valencia and Young and should opt for Mata and Janujaz or Kagawa and try and score that early goal to pile the pressure on the Reds. For all the goals they have scored this season, it does not take an Einstein to figure out that Liverpool are extremely weak in their defence. For the 73 goals they have scored this season, they have conceded 35 goals in 28 games too. Brendan Rodgers defenders havenai??i??t been on a good form and have often put the team on the back-foot due to their individual mistakes. Hence United should be looking to exploit their weakness at the back and find a way to beat Rodgerai??i??s high-pressing game. Which means that United have to move the ball swiftly in the midfield and not dwell on too many touches.
