Manchester United and Liverpool FC transfer target Adem Ljajic has hinted at a possible move away from AS Roma in the summer.
The 22-year-old joined the Italian club at the start of the season as Roma looked to replace Erik Lamela, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur, in the side. But much talked about move from Fiorentina in the summer, Ljajic has failed to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up under Rudi Garcia. The Roma manager has preferred to use Gervinho and Alessandro Florenzi instead of Ljajic, who has been restricted to only 13 starts in the league this season.
Ljajic, whose current contract with the Italian club runs till 2017, has now hinted at a possible move away from the club following lot of speculations regarding his future in Rome.
“I haven’t been playing much recently, but football is like that, the coach decides who plays.
“I gave my all and I think it went well. I came here to play, there are five games left, then when the moment arrives to talk, we will sit around a table and see what the best course of action is.” ai??i?? Ljajic said in an interview.
This statement will certainly provide encouragement to a lot of European clubs who have been monitoring his situation at Roma. Manchester United, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with a move for the Serbian international in the summer. The Red Devils are expected to spend heavily in the summer as David Moyes looks to rebuild the squad and the former Everton manager is believed to be interested in signing the versatile Serbian midfielder.
Ljajic was of course close to joining Manchester United back in 2009 when he had a trial at Old Trafford and even trained with the first team. United agreed to sign him along with Zoran Tosic, from his former club Partizan, but the move failed to materialize eventually due to work permit issues. But United reportedly willing to match Romaai??i??s ai??i??12 million valuation of the midfielder, although the move could come down to whether Moyes can guarantee him regular first team action.
Liverpool are also chasing the midfielder along with United as Brendan Rodgers is eager to add more depth to the squad in the summer. The Merseyside club are now the favourites to lift the League title after defeating Manchester City at Anfield, but Rodgers knows that he will need to strengthen the squad next season as they will have to deal with Champions League football as well. Ljajic, who can play all across the front three or as a part of a three-man midfield, will provide competition to both Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho and will keep them on their toes.
But both Liverpool and Manchester United will face competition from Borussia Dortmund, who are also eager to sign the midfielder as they look to strengthen their attack after the confirmed departure of Robert Lewandowski. It could be a three-way battle in the summer for the signing of Adem Ljajic and Roma will do well to retain him in the summer.
