Liverpool‘s Daniel Agger could be off to Atletico Madrid as Diego Godin interests Bayern Munich
Daniel Agger has been down the pecking order at Liverpool since last season and has attracted interest from numerous clubs since the transfer window began. The 29 year old still has number of years left in him and could be of value to any club that get him. Brendan Rodgers chose Mamadou Sakho ahead of him last season and the arrival of Dejan Lovren, who is a left footed centre back as well, means that Agger’s chances with the Reds are going to be considerably limited despite them competing in four competitions.
Agger was linked with a move to Arsenal, who were eyeing the Dane as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen. He was also rumored with Barcelona and Napoli.
Recent reports suggest that Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for the Liverpool vice-captain.
It was brought to the fore earlier today that Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin is set to discuss a A?27million move to Bayern Munich as the 28-year-old Uruguayan has interested Pep Guardiola who thinks he will be a good cover for the injured Javi Martinez. Martinez has been ruled out for the rest of the year with injury as he suffered aAi??cruciate ligament damage during Bayern’s defeat at the hands of rivals Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup last week.
If the rumors of Godin being set for Bayern are true, a move for Agger would make sense from Atleico Madrid’s point of view. Agger is a solid defender and he also offers leadership at the back. Hence he would be a perfect replacement for Godin.
Agger had been quoted as saying that he was unhappy with the his little involvement last season although he added that he would still fight for his future.
