Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says the club are assessing a number of players as potential signings in the January transfer window but have made no further progress in adding to their squad.
There has been a lull in this winter transfer window, with not much activity happening anywhere, but Liverpool in particular are yet to conclude anything. The Northern Irishman has said that the club is determined and will go all out to get players they feel the squad will improve with.
“There are no real developments yet.Ai??You see across the markets, clubs are just looking and seeing where they can improve. It’s similar to ourselves.
“We’ve been working over a number of months on possibilities that could strengthen the team. We just need to wait and see how that goes in the next couple of weeks.
“The owners have been great in terms of if there’s something there to be done that will help us and improve us, I’m sure they’ll support that. It’s one where it could be a difficult market to improve in.
“But it certainly won’t be for the want of trying. There’s a lot of good work going on; we’re assessing a whole raft of players. It’s just whether they are going to be available for us to bring in now.”
Rodgers has assured time and again that Liverpool will get the player they think will improve the squad, but it seems as though the club might be missing out on targets they were rumored to be close to acquiring. Mohamed Salah was one player the Reds were remarkably close to signing. It seems as if the dust has settled there, as Basel have suddenly increased the price of the Egyptian player with other clubs such as Zenit St. PetersbergAi??ready to double the sum the Reds are willing to spend on Ai??the 23 year old.
Liverpool were said to be seriously interestedAi??in landing FC Porto’s defensive midfielder Fernando Reges. However, the player whose contract expires in the summer, will reportedly switch to AC Milan next summer after agreeing personal terms with the Italian side. Milan will try to sign him for aroundAi??Ai??ai??i??6-8million which would be the approximate buy out clause in his new contract as Porto would not let their prized asset leave for free.

Liverpool are missing out on rumored targets and Brendan Rodgers certainly needs the addition of some new faces to make sure Liverpool continue their fine form into the latter part of the season. There is no guarantee that all players will remain fit for the remainder of this edition, and the Reds boss will know the pains a small squad gets to a side.
