Gus Poyet is confident about signing Borini. Alex Song is linked with a move to Liverpool and Napoli remain keen on Lucas
Liverpool’s Fabio Borini’s future with the Reds has been uncertain for a while now. The Italian went on loan to the Black Cats last season and enjoyed a relatively successful spell, turning up in important moments and helping the side survive relegation and reach the Capital One Cup final. He scored 10 goals in 40 appearances for the side.
Sunderland had approached Liverpool earlier this window, to sign the ex-Roma forward permanently. The fee was said to have been accepted by the Merseyside club but Borini expressed his wish of staying with the Reds and fighting for his future. Since then, his future has been uncertain. However, Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says he is confident of completing the record A?14million signing of the striker “in the next few days”.
Poyet believes that the signing could even be completed before the start of the season.
“The idea was to have the deal done a few weeks ago, but for different reasons it was impossible, but we are confident that maybe in the next few days we can do something about Fabio”, said the Uruguayan
“I’m always thinking that we can add quality players, especially the ones we know, and let’s hope that confidence I am trying to bring to the club is confirmed…with the signing of Borini.”
Sunderland have been busy this window and have added Jack Rodwell, Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt to the squad.
Alex Song Linked To Liverpool
The Reds have been busy this transfer window. They’ve already made seven signings and Alberto Moreno’s arrival is imminent any time now. With them spending so much, new reports linking the side to players come to the fore all the time. The latest player to be linked to the club is Alex Song.
Song is likely to leave Barcelona as Luis Enrique doesn’t see him in his plans. Barcelona’s midfield has been reinforced by Ivan Rakitic and Song’s stay at the Catalan giants is doubtful.
Manchester United have been linked with the Cameroon international in recent weeks as Louis van Gaal views him as a back-up plan to Arturo Vidal.
Spanish reports claim that Brendan Rodgers wants to make a move for the player. Liverpool are viewing a season-long loan deal as they see Song as someone who could provide some experience in the Liverpool side as well as add depth to the squad. ,
However, out of the two clubs, Manchester United are likelier to sign the player.
Lucas Leiva To Team Up With Rafa Benitez
Brendan Rodgers has made several additions to the team already and it has been obvious for a while now that Lucas looks surplus to requirements. The playerAi??started 20 games in the 2014/14 and a mere five in 2014. The Brazilian looks keen to move away from Anfield. RafaAi??Benitez who signed him from Gremio in 2007 for the Reds is keen on reuniting with the player at Napoli.
The fact that Steven Gerrard has been used as a deep lying midfielder last season with Joe Allen also emerging as a contender for the same role means that Lucas’s chances are going to be limited this time as well. Liverpool do have more games this season as they compete on four fronts, but is obvious that Lucas is not going to be a front-runner for the spot. The arrival of Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen has further put the 27 year old’s spot in jeopardy.
Napoli are still in for Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini and are trying to sign the Belgian on loan. But the summer window is close to completion and Benitez wants a back-up in case that deal falls through.
