Struggling Liverpool FC take on Arsenal FC at home on Sunday
Liverpool sit in the 11th place in the league and safe to say, the Reds have found it very difficult to get going this season. With more losses accumulated already half way through the season, than theAi??whole ofAi??last season, Brendan Rodgers needs his side to perform to try to still keep hopes of a top 4 finish. Arsenal come into the game at the backs of two good wins- over Galatasaray and Newcastle United- which means the Gunners will be in confident mood to take three points against the weak and vulnerable Reds.
Rodgers’ will be missing Daniel Sturridge, someone whose services are being missed terribly at Anfield while last season’s revelation Jon Flanagan continues to miss out. Summer signing Dejan Lovren was substituted halfway through the game against Bournemouth in the League Cup. RodgersAi??provided the news on the Croat’s condition at his pre-match press conference.
“We’re just waiting to hear on that – hopefully he’ll be fine,” Rodgers responded when asked by reporters gathered at Melwood.
“We’ll assess that before the weekend.”
In his absence, Mamadou Sakho is expected to line-up. The Liverpool fans have been asking for the Frenchman to be played since a long time. However Sakho got injured soon after his brief fall out (of sorts) with the Reds’ boss. The former PSG man would be hoping to help Liverpool’s struggling defence, something which Dejan Lovren was bought in to do but at which he has failed miserably (so far).
Mario Balotelli will also be missing the match as he would be serving his one-match ban for the anti-semitic Instagram post.
Rodgers’ is expected to continue with the 3-4-2-1 formation and play Raheem Sterling as the false nine. Sterling was threatening against Manchester United but failed to convert the good chances. Against Bournemouth he scored two good goals, which would certainly have given him a lot of confidence. The 20 year old also won the prestigious European Golden Boy award previously won by the like ofAi??Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney which would further infest confidence in him.
Rodgers also said in the pre-match conference that Brad Jones would continue to be in goal and Simon Mignolet won’t be coming back.
