Former Barcelona player Victor Valdes is poised to join Manchester United after Louis Van Gaal offered the Spaniard a chance to train with the club.
The 32-year old is a free agent and is currently recovering from a major knee injury which has kept him out of action for a long time. Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has offered Valdes the chance to work his way back to fitness with the premier league club. The goalkeeperai??i??s recovery process will be supervised by the United medical staff before he can begin training with the first team once he is full fit.
Valdes was heavily linked to Manchester Unitedai??i??s arch rivals Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers hinted that the deal was off with some suggesting that Valdes was not keen on a four day training stint prior to signing.
Valdes left Barcelona at the end of the 2013-14 season seeking a new challenge. However, the Spaniardai??i??s six month lay-off with knee ligament damage affected his choices of joining a new club immediately. A highly possible summer move to AS Monaco did not materialize and the World Cup winner was left without a club. Now that the former Barcelona player is fit again, he is on the look-out for a club that will fulfil his ambitions.
Valdes was at United’s Carrington training HQ yesterday along with his representatives and is keen to discuss all possibilities. However, United will assess his recovery before offering the player a contract.

There was no confirmation of whether Manchester United will offer Valdes a permanent deal.
The club already has a Spanish goalkeeper, David De Gea, in their ranks and Denmark international Anders Lindegaard serving as a back-up. 23-year old De Gea has been in sensational form lately and there are ongoing talks of him signing a new improved contract with the club. The arrival of Valdes will certainly keep the youngster on his toes as there will be a fierce competition for the goalkeeperai??i??s spot in the starting 11. Meanwhile, Lindegaard might find himself exiting the club come January as with the arrival of Valdes, the Danish keeper will fall further down the pecking order.
Victor Valdes has had an illustrious career so far, spending all of it with Barcelona, winning almost all the major honours football has to offer. The Spaniard has won the Zamora trophy – which marks the best goalkeeper in La Liga – five times in his career.
