Luis Suarez has pledged his future to Liverpool saying that he is going to stay at the Premier League club irrespective of Premier League title.
Suarez, who was consistently and very strongly linked with a move away from the Premier League side last summer has assured the Kop faithful of where his allegiance will lie next season.
Liverpool are guaranteed a place in next season’s Champions League and could possibly go on to win the League, albeit not holding the league outcome completely in their hands. After the loss to Chelsea last weekend, Manchester City could win the league by winning their next three fixtures as they would be tied on points with Liverpool, but ahead on goal difference.
The Uruguayan, who signed a new lucrative contract with the Anfield side, has been still tipped with a move to Real Madrid next season. But Suarez said:
“Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen to me. I’m very happy here and my family is happy here.Ai??If we could win the Premier League and bring the trophy home it would be incredible, a dream come true.”
Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, also said that qualifying for the Champions League was imperative in keeping the 27 year old in Merseyside:
“”I’ve convinced players to stay and enjoy the style of football, which they do, but they also want to be competing in the best competitions.Ai??That was key to it. That’s what he was missing.Ai??A player of Luis Suarez’s ability has to be playing at this level.
“Luis understands he may not get the same love he does at Liverpool from anywhere else. From the first year, he knew I would shape the team around his qualities. He loves the city and the supporters.”
“His loyalty in staying at Liverpool, to continue to fight for the club to get us there, is remarkable really.Hopefully he gets the rewards for that with those big European nights next season.
Suarez maintained that he was still upset about the frustrating 2-0 Chelsea loss at Anfield where the Liverpool side failed to find any openings to do damage.
“I’m still upset (about losing to Chelsea). It was so frustrating.Ai??We couldn’t find spaces, we made a mistake and it was hard to deal with.
“We knew the game was going to be hard and tight. We all got nervous and lost control.Ai??We are hoping Man City lose some points but in the Premier League you never know – anything is possible.Ai??Now we have to win the next two games and it is not going to be easy.”
Suarez, who was voted PFA Player of the Year last Sunday, has scored 30 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions this season.Ai??Suarez was one of three Liverpool players named in the Premier League Team of the Year, along with Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge.
