Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin is being targeted by Liverpool as the Reds look to bring in the Colombian on a loan to strengthen their underperforming squad, and revive their dismal season, reports theAi??Daily Mirror.
Guarin was linked all summer with a move to Manchester United, which didn’t materialize by the end of it. The player has only started five Serie A games this season.
The Merseysiders are hoping to sign the 28-year-old on loan in January, with a view to making the move permanent if he shows promise.
Liverpool are currently a club in turmoil and are undergoing a very disappointing season. Their loss yesterday, to arch-rivals Manchester United was their fourth defeat in the last seven league games. The season has been a big blow for the Reds who were also knocked out of the Champions League at the group stages.
Their is growing frustration within the Anfield camp who are desparate to ensure last season’s success was not a one-off. The Reds spent over A?107 million during the summer, after the sale of Luis Suarez, but none of their signings have done enough to convince so far.
With them not doing well for one reason or another, it is not shocking to see transfer reports surrounding the club with different players. It seems that the club is looking at players who can come and make an immediate impact in the squad.
Reportedly, Liverpool are only interested in bringing players on loan till the end of the present campaign, right now, but are not against permanent signings, if the right player is available.
Guarin is being looked as a player who can get better Liverpool’s average-at-best midfield. The 28 year oldAi??started his career with Envigado, following which he had a short spell in Argentina. He went on to play two years in France with Saint-Ai??tienne. But he actually burst at the scene after he started playing for Porto in Portugal. There he spent four seasons winning ten major titles, including three national championships and the 2011 Europa League.
Guarin is a midfielder who operates in a playmaker role. His vision and energy along with tactical discipline are his chief attributes which help him dominate the heart of the pitch for his side. His physical strength, pace and versatility to play in different positions make him a prized asset at any team.
Guarin is a lot like 20 year old Emre Can, only way more experienced. Even though Can has impressed in bits, partially due to the lack of chances he has got thus far, the arrival of Guarin would boost Liverpool’s midfield vastly. At present, the Reds need experience in the team, and Guarin could offer much more than just that.
He doesn’t seem indispensible at Inter this season, as illustrated by the lack of appearances, and the Italian club would not be opposed to sending him on loan. For Liverpool, this seems like a transfer they must pull off. Getting their midfield to improve should be a good way to get things looking on the upside again.
