Liverpool FC are among the ‘elite clubs’ chasing Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen.
The Danish international currently plays for Liverpool’s league rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The 22 year old is an important part of the Spurs side and is one of the more consistent performers in the team. Last season, when Spurs were not playing particularly well, Eriksen was one of the few players doing well.
Since his move to the London club in August 2013, Eriksen has gone on to make 52 appearances for Spurs. Eriksen has started each and every league game for Spurs this season.
Reports in his native country Denmark now suggest that the 22 year old is being eyed by French giants Paris Saint Germain, Italian biggies AC Milan, Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund and last season’s Premier League runners up Liverpool. With the big names interested in the player, a move this January or next summer cannot be ruled out.
Some reports suggested that Eriksen has turned down a new deal at White Hart Lane as he wants to play at a higher level. However, it is not certain that that is the case as the player is believed to be happy at the club right now and enjoys a good relationship with boss Mauricio Pochettino
Even if Spurs were to sell an important player of the squad, they would not be doing it for cheap and it is said that the Lilywhites want A?32m to let the player leave.
Respected football agent Ernesto Bronzetti – who played a role in taking Fernando Torres from Chelsea to AC Milan – told Danish newspaper BT:
“It is very common that when a young player performs at that level, and becomes such a critical factor in a highly volatile team in the Premier League, it will be the biggest clubs knocking on the door next time.Ai??As for Tottenhamai??i??s interest in selling [Eriksen], I hasten to say that I have no knowledge of that.Ai??Levy is a skilled negotiator and is known to get the maximum price of Tottenhamai??i??s best players.Ai??So it is quite certain that a player like Eriksen will not be cheap.”
THT Verdict- Very Unlikely
Liverpool are badly struggling at the moment and it would be a very far fetched idea that a player would want to move to a side that is below his current side in the league at the moment. Tottenham too, would not sell the player who has been a consistent performer for them in the past few months, especially to a direct rival. As for all the other names interested in the player, Spurs might consider it, but it remains unlikely that he will be sold oversees as well. Perhaps in the summer, considering the situation at the time, Levy and co. could be interested in selling the 22 year old. Even though a sum ofAi??A?32m would get Spurs interested, it is unlikely that Liverpool owners will sanction this hefty move after their summer signings have not fared generally so far. Moreover, it is believed that the Reds won’t be involved in the winter transfer window and are looking solely at a striker.
