Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers is looking beyond achieving just trophies with the Merseyside club, he is looking to build a legacy.
There were a lot of scepticism when Brendan Rodgers was appointed as the manager of Liverpool back in 2012. The fact that he didnai??i??t have any prior experience of managing a big club like Liverpool was considered to potential stumbling blocks during his stint at the club. Rodgers had a difficult task at hand as he was asked to replace a Liverpool legend in Kenny Dalglish, who didnai??i??t really leave the squad in great shape for his successor. Rodgers has had to not only clear up that squad, but has had to handle the expectations of taking the Merseyside club back to its glory days. But the Northern Irishman has done a fantastic job so far, and has proved his credentials as one of the best managers in England.
Liverpool have improved by leaps and bounds under the 41-year-old manager, who has not only embedded his footballing philosophy, but has also installed a winning mentality at the club and now they are once again back challenging for the title. They are almost sure to secure a return to the Champions League as well next season, a competition which is a necessity for a club of Liverpoolai??i??s stature and history, and they are also being considered as the dark horse in the title race. The Reds might still end up empty handed this season, but the progress is noticeable and next season, with a bit more investment in the squad along with retaining Luis Suarez, it wonai??i??t be long before Brendan Rodgers gets his hand on a piece of silverware. But winning trophies is not the only thing the former Swansea manager is hoping to achieve at Liverpool, he is looking leave a legacy behind a the host of famous managers have done with the Reds in the past.
Brendan Rodgers stressed on the importance of steady yet organic growth and development of the club during his tenure in an interview with LFCTV.
“I’ve been satisfied in terms of the progress we have made but there is still a long way to go in terms of where I want to go with the whole project.
“Hopefully it continues to grow. We have gone from a team who was looking to put a style of football in place – high energy, high tempo – to one who wants to have success running alongside that, and success is getting into the Champions League.
“This first 18 months has been (about) implementing and introducing a lot of ideas which are hopefully bearing fruit and the next 18 months is about developing and enhancing that.
“Over the next 18 months we want to eventually be really challenging on a trophy front.” ai??i?? The Liverpool manager said.
Rodgers also insisted that it is important for Liverpool to concentrate on their youth system and academy. If there is anything that is more pleasing than success, it is to achieve success with home grown talents. Liverpool do have one of the best youth academies in the country and Rodgers is hoping to bring out from Steven Gerrards from the clubai??i??s youth ranks, and this is the biggest legacy he wants to leave behind.
“There’s no point in having a youth system and an academy system if you’re not going to look from within. For me and how I work, it’s part of my definition of success.
“When I eventually retire from football I want to be able to look back and see that not only have I won trophies but I’ve developed a football club that has brought through their own players and individuals and made them better.
“Other managers may be different and might just be about purely winning trophies, but for me success isn’t picking up the trophy at the end of the season.
