Luis Suarez has asked for former Liverpool player and boss Kenny Dalglish to be the one to present him with the European Golden Shoe Award.
Dalglish, the manager who brought the Suarez to Liverpool from Ajax in a A?22m deal in January 2011, will jet to Spain for the awards ceremony to be held in Barcelona next Wednesday.
World Soccer first reported that Luis Suarez will be presented with the European Golden Shoe by Kenny Dalglish.Ai??The 27 year old has apparently arranged for Dalglish to fly to Barcelona to be part of the ceremony, having insisted he wanted to share the award with his former club.Ai??Dalglish was in-charge of Ai??Liverpool for the first 18 months when Suarez was part of the club. The now-Barcelona player scored 21 goals under the Scot before Brendan Rodgers took over in 2012. Suarez went on to score 30 and 31 goals in his two seasons with Rodgers as the boss.
The magazine also says Suarez wanted to receive the award in front of supporters at Anfield but it was not feasible.Ai??He had also hoped that Steven Gerrard would be able to join him at the event and beAi??part of the ceremony that will see him share the award with Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo,Ai??but the Liverpool captain was unable to travel.
SuA?rez won the Golden Shoe, awarded by the European Sports Media organisation, after his 31 league goals last season made him the continentai??i??s joint top scorer with Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo, meanwhile will be handed the award in a separate ceremony in Madrid on 6 November.
This gesture of associating himself and the award with the Merseyside club has been very well received by the Liverpool fans. The forward left the club for Barcelona but so far has not done anything to damage his relationship with the fans who have always held him in the highest light. Brendan Rodgers even revealed that the controversial player sent him a text message before the start of the season wishing him and the team well for this season.
