Gokhan Inler (Napoli)
Inler has been linked with Liverpool in the last few days, and rumors state that Liverpool is keen to conclude a deal for the Swiss midfielder before the window closes in a little of three days. Inler is the sort of deep-lying midfielder Liverpool is in immediate need of following Lucasai??i?? knee injury and Joe Allenai??i??s fitness concerns.
Inler averages 4.8 tackles per game with a success rate of 54% so far this season, and his battling displays in midfield will lend some much needed solidity to Liverpoolai??i??s midfield that has been lacking in Lucasai??i?? absence. He also has the ability to score from range, with all seven of his league goals in the last two seasons coming via shots from outside the opposition penalty box.
The fee being quoted in various sources is around the A?7m mark, and there are rumors that he might be part of a swap deal involving defender Daniel Agger. However, Liverpool will be unlikely to allow Agger to leave and so the deal, which is quite likely to happen, will be a cash one.
Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)
The Shaqiri rumors started doing the rounds the moment the news of Mohamed Salahai??i??s decision to join rivals Chelsea became public. Shaqiri has the ability to play on either wing and is also capable of playing through the middle just behind the central striker. He has the pace to take on full backs as well as the trickery to get past multiple players, and has the ability to pick players out in the middle.
In the last one and half seasons, Shaqiri has created 54 chances in 34 league appearances, including 5 assists, for Bayern and if Liverpool is able to sign him, it will address the shortage of quality wide options that currently plagues the Liverpool team. A loan deal seems to be the likely option, with Bayern Munich reluctant to let the highly rated youngster leave the club permanently.
Even though a fee of A?17m has been mentioned, Liverpool is unlikely to fork out such a large sum in January, and will look to take him on loan with an eye towards a possible permanent move in the summer.
Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid)
The highly rated Atletico Madrid youngster, currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano, has been linked with a move to Liverpool in January owing to the shortage of players Liverpool have in their midfield. He was highly sought after following his exploits with the Spanish U19 team, but the versatile midfielder has been disappointing at Rayo, where he has spent a lot of time playing as a central defender.
The deal is unlikely to happen in January as Brendan Rodgers has suggested that he is looking at players who can make an immediate impact, and Niguez, despite his enormous potential, is not yet ready for top level football. The move, if at all, will have to wait till the summer.
Yehven Konoplyanka (Dnipro)
Konoplyankaai??i??s name has come up once again after the failed move for Mohamed Salah, and Liverpool is reportedly willing to shell out A?16m for the Ukraian winger. He is capable of playing on either wing, and has impressed English football followers with his performances against England in the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year.
However, the deal is unlikely to happen within the next three days as Dnipro will be loathe to lose him this late in the window, with so little time to line up a replacement. If Liverpool do not sign any winger in January, a summer move for Konoplyanka could be on as the winger is likely to move in the summer.
