Liverpool FC – Bayern Munich Confirm Deal To Sign Pepe Reina

Bayern Munich have agreed a deal with Liverpool FC to sign Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has announced that Pepe Reina will arrive at Bayern Munich for a medical, before completing his move from Liverpool FC.

The 31-year-old arrived at Anfield from Villarreal in 2005 and went on to win the FA Cup in his first season. Reina established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in England as he won three Premier League Golden Glove awards in a row from 2006 till 2008. But the Spaniard, who was part of the World Cup winning squad in 2010, lost his place in the starting line-up following the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

Initial reports suggested that Reina will join Barcelona as a replacement for Victor Valdes, but when Valdes decided to extend his stay at the Catalan club for one more season, Reina was left in no manai??i??s land with Liverpool already having replaced him in their squad. The former Barcelona goalkeeper joined Napoli on loanAi?? for the 2013-14 season, but Rafa Benitez announced earlier this summer that Reina will return to Liverpool as the Italian club couldnai??i??t afford his wages to make the move permanent.

Bayern Munich have now announced that they have reached a deal to sign Reina from Liverpool and the goalkeeper will arrive in Germany for a medical ahead of completing his move. Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that Reina is well aware of the fact that Manuel Neuer will remain the number one at the club, but said that the Spaniard was keen to embark on a new adventure.

“The player will come to Munich in the next few days for a medical examination and to sign his contract.

“He was eager to come to Bayern Munich. He wanted to embark on this adventure even though he knows that, in Manuel Neuer, he has a keeper in front of him who, if nothing changes, will always remain the number one.” ai??i?? The Bayern Munich chairman said.

Reina is likely to replace 33-year-old goalkeeper Tom Starke as the number two at the club, following veteran goalkeeperai??i??s elbow injury. The transfer fee involved in this deal is believed to be in the region of ai??i??3 million.
