Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC are considering a move for Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar according to reports in Germany.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is yet to start negotiations with Schalke regarding a contract extension and recent reports in Germany suggest that both Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing the Dutch international this summer.
Huntelaar joined Schalke in 2010 after spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan and the 30-year-old has maintained a prolific goal scoring record during his four seasons in Bundesliga so far. The Dutchman has scored 172 goals in just 245 appearances for the German club and despite missing out on a large chunk of last season due to injury, he was selected by Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal in the squad which travelled to Brazil.
Huntelaar hasnai??i??t received too many opportunities at the World Cup with Robin van Persie being the number one choice for Holland, but he made a big impact after coming on as a substitute against Mexico and scored the winning goal in the dying moments of the game from the penalty spot.
According to reports in Bild, Liverpool and Arsenal are both interested in signing the former Ajax striker. Liverpool have already made three signings this summer, but are expected to continue their spending spree with Luis Suarez heading towards Barcelona. The Merseyside club have already signed Rickie Lambert from Southampton earlier this summer, but Brendan Rodgers is expected to recruit another proven goal scorer in order to replace Suarez.
Arsenal on the other hand are yet to make any signings in this transfer window, but has already been linked to a host of names. Arsene Wenger is expected to spend heavily in this summer and signing a top quality striker is on the top of his priority list.
The Gunners have already been linked with Loic Remy and Karim Benzema, but reports suggest that the London club are now considering a move for Huntelaar as well, and they will face competition from Liverpool.
Huntelaarai??i??s current contract with Schalke expires in 2015 and he is yet to hold any discussion regarding an extension. The Dutch striker has now revealed that he will hold talks with Schalke regarding his future and insisted that at the moment is he only concentrating on the World Cup with his national team.
“Regarding the rumours about Liverpool it would only be fair to speak to Schalke first.
“I’ve talked with Schalke about an extension for a while. After the World Cup I am having a holiday. Then I will speak to them again.
