Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has advised Everton midfielder James McCarthy against leaving the Merseyside club in the summer.
The 23-year-old has had a wonderful season with Everton after joining them from Wigan Athletic. He formed a wonderful partnership with Gareth Barry in the midfield and formed the base of fairly successful season under Roberto Martinez. But the Republic of Ireland international has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United as the Red Devils look to strengthen their squad in the summer.
Manchester United are expected to spend heavily in this transfer window as they look to improve on their disappointing season last time around. Improving their midfield is expected to be a priority for the side and they have already been linked with a host of players. Toni Kroos was initially reported as being the prime target for Manchester United in the summer, but the Bayern Munich midfielder has recently dismissed these links and expressed his desire to continue with the German club. This has forced United to look at other options and James McCarthy is believed to be an target for the Red Devils.
But former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has advised James McCarthy against joining Manchester United this summer. He has suggested the youngster to remain at Everton in order to continue his progress as a footballer.
“He’s only been at Everton two minutes.
“He’s obviously making good progress but I’m pretty sure that with Manchester United there’ll be talks of lots of players going there at the moment but James is at a good club in Everton.
“He’s had a decent couple of seasons and if he keeps progressing then who knows but I’m sure he’s happy where he is.” ai??i?? The Manchester United legend said in an interview.
McCarthyai??i??s current contract with the Merseyside club runs till 2018 and Everton are unlikely to let go of him cheaply, especially with Leon Osman approaching the fag end of his career and the future of Gareth Barry still in doubts.
