Kerala Blasters hammered Chennaiyin FC 3-0, in the first leg of the semi-finals between the two South Indian sides. Kerala Blasters started the game full of energy and took the lead in the first thirty minutes. Kerala then doubled their lead within a gap of two minutes, between two goals. At 2-0, the home side were cruising to comfortable victory and added another goal in the dying embers of the match, to inflict a hefty defeat on Chennaiyin FC.
Although Kerala Blasters have won the first leg 3-0, assistant coach Trevor Morgan believes that his side, would go into the next leg, pretending that the scores are tied at 0-0.
“ai???You have to approach the game positively. We wonai??i??t go into the game thinking we are three goals up. Football is not like that. We will go into the game as if the score is 0-0. This is important because teams have come back from three goals down. Chennai is a good team and we need to prepare for a tough game on Tuesday.ai??? said Morgan
“ai???We had lot of chances when we played against Chennai and we were solid defensively too till the end. But we were a little unfortunate that day to be caught on a counter attack toward the tail end of the match,ai??? he pointed out.
ai???The players were showing their excitement of winning the match,ai??? Morgan explained. ai???The fact that this is also the last time they were playing in front of the home crowd this season added to the joy of the players.ai???
Kerala’s home crowd was fantastic as always and a stadium attendance of over 60,000 was registered. Although Kerala Blasters secured a win, there were some eyebrows raised when they decided to start with Michael Chopra in place of Milagres Gonsalves.
“ai???(Iain) Hume and Michael (Chopra) are experienced players. Hume is dynamic and energetic whereas Michael picks up good positions, has a good understanding of the game and a brilliant first touch. The combination worked well tonight and only time will tell if it will work in the next game as well.ai??? Ai??explained Morgan.
Kerala Blasters secured a hefty win against Chennaiyin FC and with the scoreline, many have predicted that the Blasters have already entered the finals. For Chennaiyin FC, it remains a mammoth task to turn around such as huge gap and perhaps there campaign could be concluded as good as over.
