FC Goa impress with a 2-1 win over Delhi Dynamos, while dominating the game all around, as the scoreline did no justice to the crushing Goan performance.Ai??
Displaying high octane tempo from the first minute itself, FC Goa started with the defensive pairing of Arnolin and Bengelloun. Mirsolav Spelckia, was brought in to rescue the Goan’s goal scoring problems, replacing Ranti Martins. Andre Santos, once again shuffled his position and started as a creative midfielder behind Mirsolav. After Zico’s desire to include more Indian players,both Mandar Rao Desai and Jewel Raja started for the Virat Kohli co-owned side.
While a conservative Delhi Dynamo’s side started with 4-4-2. Marten Skoubo and Mads Junker made up the two man strike force, as Alessandro del Piero regressed to the bench. The solid figure of Wim Raymaekers was replaced by Stijn Houben, while Adil Khan once again started as a makeshift Right back.
Although FC Goa dominated play from the very first kick off the ball, the hosts as always lacked proper finishing and penetration. Continuing with their trend of quick passes, the hosts started to press Delhi and gave the visitors a 4th minute goal scare.
However, Delhi started to break the game and brought the tempo down, as they continued to dominate possession, while passing the ball sideways and backways.
Once again, against the run of play, Delhi’s Mads Junker scored in the 7th minute, after an inviting cross by Bruno Arias, who eluded his marking player and collected the ball from Hans Mulder.
As Zico was once again undone by a goal at the wrong moment, it seemed that the hosts succumbed to low spirits. With the game continuously being played in midfield, an Andre Santos injury added to the woes of the hosts. The Brazilian was stretchered of and replaced by Amiri.
Delhi’s keeper Kristof van Hout, was constantly testing, whilst justifying his grit. A superb cross in by debutant Mandar Rao Desai, missed Amiri, as the slightest touch of the latter would result in a goal.
Chances came equally on both ends, Delhi capitalized on theirs, while FC Goa dint. At the Half way point the scoreline read 1-0 to the visitors.
Delhi Dynamos made an astute substitution at the halfway point, as Dinis – a holding midfielder was introduced for Morten Skoubo. This change meant that Dinis would slot in alongside Hans Mulder, while Bruno Arias would transit forward and partner Mads Junker.
As FC Goa regularly applied pressure on Delhi Dynamos, the hosts created a brilliant goal scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute, only to be saved superbly once again by Kristof van Hout.
FC Goa decided to up their attacking ante,as Ozbey was brought in for Arnolin, transiting Goa to a three men defense. Delhi Dynamos committed men behind the ball while FC Goa dominated possession, even in the final third.Ai??The resolute Delhi defense which held out the Goan for the better half of the game, finally crumbled and leaked a goal, as Mandar Rao Desi cross was met by cushion header, only to be head into goal by Jewel Raja.
Possessed with high spirits, the Goan side progressed regularly into the final third of Delhi Dynamos, but as always lacked the sucker punch, while driving Delhi deep into their own 18 yard box.Ai??As the game stretched both teams exchanged heavy blows, and FC Goa emerged victors after a dink pass by Mirsolav, met substitue Ozbey, who rounded keeper van Hout and delivered the sucker punch.
